Square Dance Classes for new dancers and/or dancers
requiring a refresher class start in early January each
year. The classes start with Basic square dancing, then
progress to Mainstream square dancing. Upon completion
of these lessons, a candlelight graduation is conducted
by the Houston Square and Round Dance Council (HSRDC).
Later in the year, Plus square dance lessons are offered
to the graduating class.
Experienced dancers participate in each dance lesson
as "Angels" to the new dancers. Our First Vice President
is the overall class coordinator and Hanger Square’s
"Angels" are assigned to work with each dancer
throughout the duration of the lessons.
These Angels are basically mentors who sit with the
new dancer between Square Dance Tips, handle
introductions, answer new dancer questions, and in
general make the new dancer feel comfortable and at ease
with the group.
